Den Alde Koat in Kranenburg

The tastiest coffee and cake enjoyed here in 2 weeks of vacation. No factory or freezer, no everything fresh and home-made.

As always, we ate delicious cakes and drank coffee in a great and stylish atmosphere. We always like to come back to our nice hosts 👍🏻

A hidden property with a very nice ambience. Tastefully landscaped garden, friendly owners from the cafe. Have had delicious cakes and the coffee was good. It will become a permanent address on our bike tours.

Is it a tea house or a coffee house? No matter ... Very nicely located cottage in the middle of a garden, with a pond and a very beautiful flower garden. The food was delicious, we would recommend the appetizers, various crab and shrimp cocktails, you could get in, so tasty! The garden is beautifully designed and maintained. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating. A gem in the countryside, which should be visited on a trip to the area!

Nice stop along the way during a bike ride to enjoy tea and homemade cakes. But also for a well-kept buffet to celebrate something with a small group. Lindsay and Hans really make you feel at home.

A wonderfully beautiful cafe, furnished with a lot of love by the owners. Small oases in a beautifully landscaped garden. Homemade cakes and liqueurs that leave nothing to be desired in terms of taste. A must see when you are around.

The beautiful village of Mehr in the Duffelt, one of the satellite villages of the municipality of Kranenburg in Germany, where I have lived for over 19 years now, has a great attraction. The tea house / coffee house Den Alde Koat, the old Kiet, is an ideal dock for cyclists and day trippers who want to relax, want a cup of coffee, a nice piece of cake or something else. Chill out in a nice, quiet place, in a well-kept garden that has been made with love and attention, in which flower beds, ponds, shrubs and small surprising places everywhere alternate. The whole is surrounded by beautiful, large trees that provide the necessary shade on the various terraces. In the background the old and the only thatched farm in Mehr. I believe it dates from the 18th century and made history and derived its name from it. The owners are Hans and Lindsay Spandaw who started this with enthusiasm a few years ago and after a lot of trial and error and hard work and perseverance they have managed to make something very beautiful. They are hospitable, humble, friendly and do everything they can to make their guests as pleasant and pleasant as possible. That has ensured that it has started to improve. Something like that goes around. Today, Monday 21 May 2018, a sunny and pleasant Whit Monday, I drop in at Den Alde Koat after a revitalizing lap on my mountain bike of, yes, 11.74 km through the beautiful Duffelt. I see that there are already many bicycles and that many tables are already occupied. I had wanted to have a look earlier, but due to illness that had not happened yet. I think again of the fun and inspiring musical performance that I gave here in July 2017 with Roel and Dimphie on a sunny summer afternoon. I had a lot of fun at that time and still thought about it regularly. I am warmly welcomed and greeted by Hans and Lindsay who are surprised and happy to see me again. Catch up, I walk around in the garden, take some pictures, see that it is fun and that things are going well here. Have a nice and sometimes noisy contact with an older couple from Boxmeer. We discuss everything that matters and what does not matter in life: growing old, how to survive, cycling, looking for boundaries, sometimes going through it, how beautiful it is here in our environment, both in the Netherlands and in Germany, how wrong the politics and the world is not. Too many to mention but the atmosphere is good, it is fun and cozy and time flies. Wonderful to be distracted from the life that can sometimes press on someone like that. We say goodbye with a good feeling. They still have a long journey ahead of them, I live around the corner. I say goodbye to Hans and Lindsay and wish them good luck with the new activities and plans they have in mind. I'll be back soon.

Very nice garden café with particularly warm owners and employees who still enjoy their work. Fantastic grillage cake in a glass, great cakes and coffees. Super nice atmosphere. Absolute enrichment for the Lower Lower Rhine.
